The Pupil Premium provides additional funding on top of the main funding a school receives. It is targeted at pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as pupils from less deprived families.
In the 2018-2019 financial year, schools will receive £1320 for each primary aged child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years. Schools also receive £1,900 for each looked after child at their school.
It is for schools to decide how to spend Pupil Premium funding since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for each pupil. Schools have a duty to report how they use Pupil Premium allocation each year.
