SS Simon and Jude CE Primary School is situated in Great Lever, Bolton. We have approximately 480 children at our school. We deliver the International Primary Curriculum.
We are a convertor academy, opening in November 2012 as a founder school of the SS Simon & Jude Academy Trust T/A Vantage Academy Trust. We are proud to be a National Support School, with our staff including a National Leader of Education and Specialist Leaders of Education.
SS Simon and Jude is at the heart of our local community. We provide facilities for SS Simon and Jude Church, Amateur Dramatic Society, Rainbows and Brownies groups as well as hire for other community groups.
Please take some time to look around our website. We hope this gives you an insight into the ethos and education at SS Simon and Jude.
Our visions and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
We believe there is a very simple, yet highly effective formula to providing our pupils with an excellent education – children need a happy school atmosphere, limited class sizes and to have high expectations of themselves.
We have a wonderful team of teachers and assistants at SS Simon and Jude who are dedicated to helping pupils achieve their full potential. We use traditional teaching methods with a strong emphasis on English and Maths. There is a lovely community spirit at our School. Mutual respect, good behaviour and courtesy are at the heart of our school ethos. Every pupil is treated as an individual to ensure we nurture their abilities and meet their needs. Pupils work to a curriculum that is tailored to their specific needs so they achieve their full potential.
As a trust, we are deeply committed to improving outcomes for all children and supporting schools with a history of underperformance to become both inspirational and safe places in which to learn. We do this by investing in and developing exceptional teachers, leaders and support staff; building strong relationships with parents and our local communities; providing inspirational learning environments; and demonstrating high expectations for every school and every child across the trust.
Our Vision is: To ensure lifelong learning for the whole community by building a better future together
Our Mission is: To build and maintain learning communities by developing passionate learners through personalised learning for a globally changing world. By nurturing each child’s faith journey, based on Christian Values, we enable lifelong learning through promoting high standards, encouraging enquiring minds and valuing ourselves and others in our school community and beyond.
Building a better future together…
Here at SS Simon and Jude we encourage children to understand our Christian Values Hope, Compassion, Peace, Thankfulness, Love, Faith, Forgiveness, Reverence, Justice, Trust, Perseverance and Friendship. We promote our Christian Values through celebrations such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest, as well as collective worship, prayer and reflection. Through prayer and reflection we also work to take each child on their own faith journey.
Here at SS Simon and Jude we want all our children to grow in their own faith. For our younger children, linking the major festivals gives a structure within which deepens their knowledge of their own faith story.
Here at SS Simon and Jude we promote lifelong learning through the progression of key skills, such as reading and writing but also through developing life experiences such as going to the Post Office.
Here at SS Simon and Jude we promote the very highest academic standards, moving from concrete operations, to the abstract ensuring mental agility based on sound practice. All our children learn their times tables in our Assertive Mentoring Programme and old fashioned life skills for a modern child.
Here at SS Simon and Jude we encourage all our children to get a love of learning that takes them beyond the classroom into the wider world. Children are able to investigate and find answers to the questions they have generated. Developing an inquiring mind is a key skill in the promotion of deep learning as well as leading you down new unexplored paths.
Here at SS Simon and Jude children are encouraged to go on a path of self-discovery. Children learn how to take responsibility for their own learning and personal development, as well as how to treat and respect others.
Here at SS Simon and Jude we work together to overcome any obstacles, however challenging, to achieve our goals. We try and try again, building resilience which helps us deal with any disappointments on our journey to success.
Here at SS Simon and Jude we believe that our differences make us stronger. Learning from each other, our traditions and our shared history.
As a school community, we believe that everyone has the right to succeed, the right to be happy, the right to be who they are and the right to feel valued.
At SS Simon and Jude there are 8 key attributes which are embedded in all aspects of daily life in school in order to prepare our children for their future: resilience, adaptability, co-operation, communication, morality, enquiry, thoughtfulness and respect. More information on each of the Personal Goals can be found in the Parent Leaflet – ‘Parents Guide to the IPC’.
